The Five Elements (五行, Wu Xing) are the foundation of Chinese metaphysics. Unlike the Western four elements (earth, air, fire, water), the Chinese system uses five: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. These are not physical substances but patterns of energy — ways that qi (life force) moves, transforms, and expresses itself.五行（Wu Xing）是中國玄學的基石。與西方的四元素（地、風、火、水）不同，中國的系統用的是五種：木、火、土、金、水。它們不是實體物質，而是能量模式——即氣（生命能量）移動、轉化與表現自身的方式。

The Generating Cycle (Sheng)相生循環（Sheng）

The Controlling Cycle (Ke)相剋循環（Ke）

The second cycle is the Controlling Cycle (相剋), where each element restrains or regulates another:第二個循環是相剋循環（相剋），每一個五行都在制約或調節另一個：

Your primary element is determined by your Day Master — the Heavenly Stem of your birth day. This is the element that represents "you" in your Bazi chart.
