What Are the Four Pillars?什麼是四柱？

A Bazi chart (八字, "Eight Characters") is built from four pieces of time information: your birth year, month, day, and hour. Each piece produces one pillar — a column containing one Heavenly Stem (天干) on top and one Earthly Branch (地支) below.一個八字命盤（八字，意為「八個字」）是由四項時間資訊所構成：你的出生年、月、日與時。每項時間產生一柱——即上方為一個天干、下方為一個地支的直欄。

The stems and branches are drawn from ancient Chinese calendrical systems — the same 10 stems and 12 branches that cycle through the Sexagenary (60-year) cycle. A helpful image: the chart reads like a tree. The Year Pillar: Roots & Ancestry年柱：根基與祖上

The Year Pillar (年柱) is calculated from the Chinese lunar-solar year of your birth. Its Earthly Branch is what most people know as their Chinese zodiac animal — the branch 寅 is Tiger, 卯 is Rabbit, and so on.年柱是根據你出生的農曆／陰陽合曆年份計算得出。其地支就是大多數人所熟知的生肖——例如地支「寅」代表虎、「卯」代表兔，以此類推。

Traditional texts call the Year Pillar the "ancestors' palace" (祖上宮). A strong, well-supported Year Pillar suggests early support from family; a clashed or weakened one often indicates a childhood of change or self-reliance. The Month Pillar (月柱) is arguably the most structurally important pillar after the Day Pillar, for one crucial reason: it sets the season of your birth.月柱可以說是重要性僅次於日柱的柱位，原因非常關鍵：它決定了你的出生季節。

The 12 months of the Chinese solar calendar each correspond to one Earthly Branch, and each branch embodies a season — 寅/卯 months are spring (Wood dominant), 巳/午 are summer (Fire), 申/酉 are autumn (Metal), 亥/子 are winter (Water), and the earth months 辰戌丑未 mark seasonal transitions. The Heavenly Stem of the month is sometimes called the "seasonal commander" (司令). The Day Pillar: Self & Spouse日柱：自身與配偶

The Day Branch, sitting directly beneath the Day Master, is the spouse palace (夫妻宮). It describes:坐於日主正下方的日支，即為夫妻宮。它描述了：

The Hour Pillar: Children & Legacy時柱：子女與晚年

The Hour Pillar (時柱) is built from the two-hour Chinese hour (時辰) of your birth. The 24-hour day divides into 12 branches, each governing two hours — 子時 is 11 p.m.–1 a.m., 午時 is 11 a.m.–1 p.m., and so on.時柱由你出生的時辰（兩小時為一單位）推算而得。一天的 24 小時劃分為 12 個地支，每個地支掌管兩小時——例如子時是晚上 11 點至凌晨 1 點，午時是上午 11 點至下午 1 點，以此類推。

Do not underestimate the hour. Two people born on the same day at different hours can have very different charts: the Hour Stem changes every two hours, and the Hour Branch carries hidden stems that can complete combinations or trigger clashes deep inside the chart. Common Misconceptions常見迷思

• "The Year Pillar is the most important because it's your zodiac animal." Actually the opposite — the year-based zodiac is the pop-culture shortcut. A full Bazi reading centers on the Day Master, not the year animal.「年柱最重要，因為它代表你的生肖。」事實恰恰相反——以生肖為主的年份解析只是流行文化的簡寫捷徑。完整的八字論命是以日主為核心，而非生肖。
